I learned the fundamentals of computer programming using the Pascal language. During my Masters degree I programmed heavily using MATLAB using it for computer simulations and data analysis. I have also used Python to a more limited extent but this is one of my current projects which I intend to master in the near future.
I am skilled in a variety of data anlysis software packages. As well as using MATLAB for data visualisation and analysis, I have been trained in the neuroimaging analysis software SPM and EEGLAB which are both highly specified MATLAB plugins used to analyse fMRI and EEG data.
My Excel knowledge base is broad. I have used it for many years as a valuable tool to perform calculations, data anlyses and presenting data - from multiple table spreadsheets to sophisticated chart functions and formattings.
I have been trained in statistical methods and the use of VSNi's Genstat software which is a powerful and intuitive statistics package more efficient and suited to scientific analysis than Excel for example, particularly in areas such as trend analysis and model-fitting.
Recently I have begun learning and experimenting with QlikView connecting to database servers, importing tables, creating associations and producing worksheets containing interactive charts to summarise and analyse data. I can build and design relational databases in Microsoft Access and can create complex queries for data analysis and design forms for inputting data.
I have taught myself the fundamentals of SQL for both database design and queries. My experience has chiefly been with MySQL and MySQL Workbench but I aso understand the similarities and differences between other implementations of SQL.
Recently I have turned my attention to web design. I can create websites using HTML and CSS and can add interactivity using jQuery which allows a simple way of incorporating JavaScript into a page.
I will build on my web design knowledge by learning JavaScript to develop dynamic and fully interactive websites. I hope to incorporate SQL by building web client forms to both input to and query from a database server.
To suppplement and expand my IT proficiency I will increase my knowledge of Python and intend to learn Visual Basic and Visual Studio with the aim of adding further levels of sophistication and capabilities to databases and websites.
